The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has fined four major U.S. wireless carriers nearly $200 million for unlawfully selling access to real-time location data of their customers without consent

The FCC imposes $200 million in fines on four US carriers

The carriers fined include T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, with fines ranging from $12 million to over $91 million. The fines were a result of the carriers sharing user location data without authorization, and the investigation was initiated after a misuse case by a Missouri Sheriff called Corey Hutcheson. Despite discovering irregular procedures, the carriers continued to sell access to location data without adequate protection, leading to the fines imposed by the FCC.
