The Justice Department, along with international partners, is working to capture cyber criminals like Vasinskyi, aiming to hold them accountable and seize their profits. REvil, the syndicate behind this crime spree, was responsible for high-profile cyber attacks such as targeting Travelex, JBS, Quanta Computer, a New York City law firm, and the Kaseya hit on 4 July 2021. The ransomware gang became known for the double extortion technique, where data is not only encrypted but also stolen and held hostage. REvil was disrupted by Russian authorities in early 2022 amidst global law enforcement actions. This sentencing highlights international efforts to combat cybercrime and hold perpetrators accountable.
