Since Sweden initiated the process of NATO membership, it has been under a wave of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, starting with a massive 500 Gbps attack on government infrastructure in May 2023. The attacks escalated through late 2023, with peaks in early 2024 coinciding with pivotal announcements regarding NATO approval. Notably, on February 14th, after the Swedish Foreign Minister hinted at Hungary's approval, there were 1524 simultaneous DDoS attacks on Swedish organizations

The crescendo occurred on March 4th, 2024, just three days before Sweden officially joined NATO, with 2275 recorded attacks in a single day. Various politically motivated hacker groups including NoName057, Anonymous Sudan, Russian Cyber Army Team, and Killnet were identified as being involved in the attacks. ```
