OpenText has acquired Pillr from IT services giant Novacoast to enhance its managed detection and response (MDR) offerings for managed service providers (MSPs). Pillr, initially known as novaSOC before its rebranding, will be integrated into OpenText's cybersecurity tools for small and mid-sized businesses. The acquisition is expected to strengthen OpenText's threat protection capabilities and streamline operations for MSPs, with a focus on providing powerful yet cost-effective solutions

OpenText fills the managed detection and response gap for MSPs by acquiring Pillr

By integrating Pillr into OpenText Secure Cloud, the company aims to provide MSPs direct access to services like security awareness training and MDR solutions. This move is crucial as smaller MSPs struggle to keep up with the increasing volume of cyberthreats and can benefit from third-party assistance in threat detection and response. The acquisition will also bring expertise in specific sectors such as K-12 education to OpenText and add hundreds of new MSPs across North America and the UK to its existing global network of over 23,000 MSPs. This strategic acquisition aligns with OpenText's commitment to enhancing its security offerings and exploring new opportunities in adjacent markets identified by MSPs, following its previous cybersecurity acquisitions from the Micro Focus deal in 2023.
