A network of online scammers known as Telekopye is targeting users of Booking.com and Airbnb by using a toolkit called Telekopye for phishing campaigns since 2016, evolving from marketplace scams to now exploit the hotel and apartment booking sector; these scammers, also referred to as 'Neanderthals,' send phishing emails, SMS messages, and create fake payment websites to trick users into providing sensitive payment details, with their tactics becoming more sophisticated by using information from compromised legitimate accounts to deceive victims, and despite law enforcement operations, they persist by enhancing their tools and operations, including automated phishing page creation and anti-DDoS measures, emphasizing the importance of awareness, caution on platforms, reputable anti-malware solutions, strong passwords, and two-factor authentication for safeguarding online accounts.
